OSI Purchases A Chicago Tyson Foods Processing Plant

OSI is a food processing company that serves the fast food industry and grocery brand names. It was founded in Chicago in 1909. OSI has over 60 facilities in 16 countries with over 20,000 employees.

In June of 2016 The Tyson Foods plant, located at S. Ashland Ave in Chicago, was purchased by OSI for a sum of $7.4 million dollars. This Tyson plant had foundered in its ability to meet the changing demands it’s clients. This facility made prepared meals for the hospitals and other similar types of institutions.

OSI Group offered to place a large percentage of the 250 workers that were still employed at Tyson when it ceased production in June. Tyson has two other Chicago processing plants that are still in operation.

OSI would not disclose it’s future plans for the Tyson facility. Kevin Scott, who is senior executive vice president for OSI North America, announced on June 8th, “This facility enhances our capabilities to meet the rapidly evolving needs of our customers. We are excited to have this facility as part of the broader OSI manufacturing network.”
